Medicaid provides health care services to qualified Texas residents. Your local Texas Department of Human Services office can tell you if anyone in your family qualifies for Medicaid. For adults in some parts of the state, Medicaid covers hospital care (in-patient and out-patient), doctor's office visits, up to three medicines a month with a prescription, laboratory tests and x-rays, nursing home care and other services. In other areas of the state, some Medicaid recipients get Medicaid services through managed care programs, and the limits on medicines do not apply. Also, Medicaid covers more services for children and teens than adults.
Medicaid Transportation Program
Medicaid provides assistance to recipients who do not have a way to get to a healthcare appointment. To ask for help, call a Texas Department of Health Medical Transportation office. Try to call a few days before you need a ride.
Finding a Doctor
The Texas Health Steps toll free numbers can help families find doctors, dentists, and nurses for their children who have Medicaid. Call this number if you need help from Texas Health Steps Assistance: 1-877-847-8377.
