Keeping your legal information accurate and current

Legal Aid Content Intelligence (LACI)

Welcome to Project LACI. We’re glad you’re here.

Project LACI—short for Legal Aid Content Intelligence—was created to help legal aid organizations meet one of today’s biggest challenges: keeping legal information accurate, current, and trustworthy in a world of constantly changing laws. Whether you’re a legal advocate, technologist, funder, or partner, this page offers a growing look at how LACI is beginning to transform the way legal information is maintained and shared for the public good.

Innovations in Technology 2026

Come see one or both of our presentations at ITC 2026 in San Antonio!

  • Keeping Legal Documents Current: Project LACI Case Studies. Here we’ll be talking about our current and former maintenance processes for our public legal information, inviting attendees to share their procedures, and then talking about using LACI to help our staff keep information current. We’ll have Martha Beard-Duncan from Texas Legal Services Center and Jenna Furman from Idaho Legal Aid Services, who are in the process of adopting LACI, and Victoria O’Reilly from Atlanta Legal Aid discussing their upcoming plans to adopt LACI and establish a shared governance model to move it forward. Luigi Bai will round out the panel with perspectives from Lone Star Legal Aid.
  • Affinity group meeting. Here we’ll hopefully give a live demo of LACI, answer questions about its operation and things to consider before and during its adoption, and have a broader discussion about the future of LACI.

What is LACI?

LACI (Legal Aid Content Intelligence) is an open-source automation tool designed to help legal aid organizations and legal information sites keep their resources up to date. Managing hundreds of legal documents is challenging.  Laws change, regulations update, and keeping your content accurate takes time.

What does LACI do?

  • Monitors your documents in Google Drive, MS SharePoint, ShareSync, or Drupal.
  • Tracks online legal sources (laws, regulations, court rules, cases, forms, web pages) relevant to each document.
  • Alerts your team when documents or sources change, so updates happen promptly.
  • Reduces review time by focusing only on documents that need attention.

Why use LACI?

  • Save Time: Limit review time to documents needing changes.
  • Stay Accurate: Know when changes are needed to keep your legal content current and compliant.
  • Free & Open Source: Available under the AGPL license at https://codeberg.org/LACI.

Who is using LACI?

  • Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) – Managing 800+ documents.
  • Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) – Integrating LACI with TexasLawHelp.org.
  • Idaho Legal Aid Services (ILAS) – Maintaining 200+ resources statewide.
  • Atlanta Legal Aid Society – TIG Award to implement LACI in Georgia.
