Lone Star Legal Aid Announces Consolidation of Three Offices Amid Funding Changes

Houston, TX — Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) has closed its Conroe, Galveston, and Richmond offices as part of a strategic consolidation in response to several one-time grants coming to an end and reductions in federal funding for 2026.

Despite these office closures, LSLA remains fully committed to serving residents in the affected counties. Clients will continue to receive free civil legal services through LSLA’s nearby offices in Houston, Clute, Bryan, and Nacogdoches, as well as through online and telephone intake systems.

“While we are facing funding challenges, our mission remains the same—to provide access to justice for low-income Texans,” said Paul Furrh, Chief Executive Officer of Lone Star Legal Aid. “No client will lose access to our services because of these office consolidations. We are simply restructuring our operations to make the most efficient use of available resources.”

Lone Star Legal Aid currently serves 72 counties in Texas and 4 in Arkansas, handling cases related to housing, family safety, public benefits, consumer rights, veterans’ issues, and disaster recovery. Like many legal aid organizations nationwide, LSLA is adapting to a difficult funding environment while maintaining its commitment to those most in need.

“These decisions are never easy, but we are focused on preserving services—not buildings,” said Furrh. “Our staff remain dedicated to helping clients access safety, stability, and justice in their communities.”

Clients who previously received assistance from the Conroe, Galveston, or Richmond offices can continue to apply for services online at www.lonestarlegal.org or by calling 1-800-733-8394.
