If you or someone you know needs help paying electricity, gas, or propane bills, BakerRipley’s Utility Assistance Program is opening a new application window on Monday, March 9. This vital support is funded through the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs and serves households in Harris, Brazoria, and Galveston Counties.
The online portal will accept an additional 4,000 applications when it opens in March. Last round, all available slots filled quickly, underscoring how important this support is for families struggling to keep their utilities connected.
To avoid delays and ensure your application is reviewed:
Complete the application in full — incomplete submissions will not be reviewed. (https://bakerripley.org/programs-and-services/utility-assistance/)
Submit only one application per household per calendar year (January through December). Duplicate submissions can slow processing for everyone.
Upload all required documents (proof of income, identification, citizenship or legal residency for each household member, current utility bill, etc.). Missing documentation will delay review.
Before starting your online application, have the following ready:
A cell phone number and email address for account registration and updates (you’ll receive a verification code).
Identity documentation for all household members.
Proof of income from the last 30 days for everyone 18 and older.
A current utility bill showing your electricity, gas, or propane account.
Once your application is received, you’ll get a confirmation email with an application number — keep this number to check your status online. You should receive a decision within about six weeks.
This program offers crucial financial relief when utility costs become burdensome. Mark your calendar for March 9 and prepare your documents now — being ready early increases your chances of submitting a complete application when the portal opens.
