Community Justice Worker Program

Too many Texans face serious legal problems without a lawyer by their side.

Disability Rights Texas is partnering with Lone Star Legal Aid, Legal Aid of Northwest Texas, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid, and Texas Legal Services Center to invite community-based organizations across the state to join the Community Justice Workers of Texas (CJW) Program — a statewide initiative designed to expand access to legal information and trusted resources for underserved communities.

Funded through a Moonshot Grant from the Texas Access to Justice Foundation, the CJW Program trains trusted community members to help neighbors navigate common civil legal issues and connect with legal aid when needed.

We’re inviting Community Partner Organizations (CPOs) to join us. As a partner, you’ll:

  • Support your community’s access to benefits and resources
  • Designate a staff or volunteer point of contact
  • Confirm applicants from your organization
  • Participate in simple reporting and feedback

Benefits for CPOs:

  • Free training and resources for your staff or volunteers
  • Stronger partnerships with legal aid organizations
  • Recognition as a trusted statewide partner

Community Partner Organizations play a critical role in ensuring that legal information reaches people where they already seek help and trust guidance. Through this collaboration, Lone Star Legal Aid and Disability Rights Texas aim to build a sustainable, community-driven network that expands access to justice.

Organizations interested in becoming a Community Partner are encouraged to visit the CJW Program’s Community Partner Organization information page to learn more. (Below)
