Stephanie, an active-duty soldier and mother of young children, contacted Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) after repeated concerns about her landlord and maintenance workers entering—or attempting to enter—her apartment without advance notice. Her landlord claimed he could enter as long as he knocked three times, leaving Stephanie understandably concerned about her family’s privacy and safety.
LSLA reviewed Stephanie’s lease and explained her rights under Texas law, including the landlord’s obligations regarding a required security device and that Stephanie should not be responsible for the cost of the device. LSLA also offered assistance in addressing the issue with her landlord.
With a better understanding of her rights and the protections available to her, Stephanie gained the confidence to advocate for herself, her family, and her home.
LSLA’s Military and Veterans Unit helps veterans understand their legal rights, address legal barriers, and connect with resources that can promote stability in housing, employment, transportation, finances, and other areas of their lives.
Stephanie’s experience demonstrates the power of knowing your rights. LSLA helps Veterans turn that knowledge into confidence—and confidence into action.
