City of Houston Issues 2018 Water Quality Report

Each year, the City of Houston Public Works issues a Water Quality Report on regulated contaminants found in the City’s drinking water supply.  A requirement of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), the City’s annual Water Quality report is a way for Houstonians to know more about the safety and quality of their drinking water.  Read the recently issued 2018 report here.

What should you do if you are concerned about the taste, odor, or color of your drinking water? For drinking water supplied by the City of Houston, residents should contact 311 or email waterquality@houstontx.gov.  Visit the City of Houston’s Public Works Houston Water page here for more information.

Community members throughout Texas may use TCEQ’s Drinking Water Watch at https://dww2.tceq.texas.gov/DWW/ to learn more about the quality of their drinking water and the public water system’s compliance with state and federal regulations. Drinking Water Watch has information on how to contact each public water supplier in Texas to make a water quality complaint. Community members across Texas can also contact EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 800-426-4791 or www.epa.gov/safewater/ to report a violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Lone Star Legal Aid’s Environmental Justice Team represents low-income environmental justice communities where drinking water quality and groundwater contamination are a concern. Advocating for safe drinking water, the EJ Team has been working alongside residents by conducting community water surveys, reviewing administrative orders regarding drinking water suppliers, and advocating for clean drinking water in our 72-county service area in Texas.
