March 3-9 is National Consumer Protection Week

National Consumer Protection Week is the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) week-long campaign aimed at educating consumers about their rights to help them make well-informed decisions about money.

Looking to protect yourself from fraud, identity theft, and scams? Maybe you’re wondering about the best way to use credit, how to shop for a used car, or maximize your security online. National Consumer Protection Week is a time to help people understand their consumer rights and make well-informed decisions about their money.

The FTC is an independent agency of the United States government whose principal mission is the enforcement of civil laws intended to protect consumers from predatory business practices and the promotion of consumer protection.

The FTC’s Consumer Advice website can help you:

  • File a consumer complaint
  • Register for the national DO NOT CALL list
  • Report identity theft
  • Get your free credit report
  • Get email updates
  • Order free resources to share with your community

Stay tuned for our appearance on KPFT radio this month, on consumer protection tips. Natalie Cochran and Melinda Lopez from Lone Star Legal Aid will shed light on common scams and will provide valuable insights on how to avoid falling victim to them.
